Executive Assistant

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly organized and proactive Executive Assistant to play a critical role in driving operational excellence at our fast-growing startup. Your responsibilities will span business planning support, office and travel coordination, HR administration, internal communications, financial tracking, and organizing key events and documentation. As a core part of the team, you’ll help turn our company’s mission into reality by ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities

  • Build tools and processes for business analytics and financial planning.
  • Maintain and organize company agreements, documents and internal databases.
  • Oversee office operations, managing supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for the team.
  • Support HR processes, including employee documentation, onboarding, and internal policies.
  • Process and track invoices and expense reports.
  • Organize company events, client meetings, team workshops, and internal communications.
  • Prepare and manage internal reports and business documentation.
  • Handle a part of incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails, letters.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Have:

  • Minimum 1 year or relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience in executive support and operations.
  • Ability to handle documentation, reporting, and internal coordination.
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to support company growth and grow together.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience working in a startup environment.

  • Experience in handling travel logistics.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Workspace.

Salary range: €2,200–3,000 gross.

Senior Optical Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to support the development and integration of precision free-space optical communication systems. You will be responsible for optical design, simulation, alignment, and performance optimization of our laser-based terminals and ground stations. This role leads designing of core optical systems and supports hands-on lab evaluation of designs, contributing directly to Astrolight’s next-generation space and defense communication products.

Responsibilities

We would like you to take ownership and be part of our optics engineering efforts aimed at enabling fast laser links between our ATLAS space terminal and HERMES optical ground station or between ships carrying our POLARIS terminals. In this position you will:

  • Design sophisticated optical systems for laser communication starting from idea level
  • Simulate beam propagation and evaluate optical performance using tools like OSLO, Zemax or equivalent
  • Propose improvements to currently used optical designs
  • Lead optical assembly, alignment, calibration, and performance testing in the lab
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and electronics teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Prepare optical design documentation, numerical and experimental test reports and any other relevant documents.

Requirements

  • Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 3 or more years of experience in designing laser and imaging optical systems
  • Experience with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, OSLO).
  • Solid understanding of performance evaluation principles of optical systems (aberration, coupling efficiencies) using design tools (e.g., Zemax, OSLO)
  • Solid understanding of laser beam propagation, optical tolerancing, and alignment principles
  • Familiarity with photonic components and their mechanical integration
  • Understanding of optical system behaviour in harsh environments

Nice to have

  • Experience with free-space optical communication or LiDAR systems
  • Familiarity with fiber-based components and SWIR optics
  • Experience of work in cleanroom environment
  • Knowledge of aerospace or defense standards (ECSS, MIL-STD)

Optical Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an Optical Engineer to support the development and integration of precision free-space optical communication systems. You will be responsible for optical design, simulation, alignment, and performance optimization of our laser-based terminals and ground stations. This role bridges simulation and hands-on lab work, contributing directly to Astrolight’s next-generation space and defense communication products.

Responsibilities

We would like you to take ownership and be part of our optical engineering efforts aimed at enabling fast laser links between our ATLAS space terminal and HERMES optical ground station or between ships carrying our POLARIS terminals. In this position you will:

  • Design and optimize optical systems for laser transmission, beam shaping, optical signal detection and coupling to detector or optical fiber
  • Simulate beam propagation and optical performance using tools like OSLO, Zemax or equivalent
  • Select optical components (lenses, filters, coatings, detectors) and define optical layouts
  • Support assembly, alignment, calibration, and performance testing in the lab
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and electronics teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Prepare optical design documentation, test reports and any other relevant documents.

Requirements

  • Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Previous experience in optics, ideally spanning at least two years.
  • Solid understanding of laser beam propagation, optical tolerancing, and alignment principles
  • Experience with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, OSLO).
  • Ability to design optical system models using design tools (e.g., Zemax, OSLO), evaluate optical performance and optical power coupling efficiency metrics (e.g. coupling efficiency to optical fiber)
  • Familiarity with photonic components and their mechanical integration
  • Comfortable with hands-on lab work and iterative prototyping

Nice to have

  • Experience with free-space optical communication or LiDAR systems

Embedded Software Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment, working alongside software and FPGA developers, as well as mechanical, electronics, and laser engineers. Together, you’ll contribute to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enable secure, high-throughput laser communication for Earth, orbit, and beyond.

About our technology

We design all aspects of our products, whether that is the fiber laser, optics, mechanics, electronics or software. The software technologies we use include:

  • Linux-based ARM systems running code written in C/C++,
  • Embedded STM32 ARM and RISC processors running the Zephyr RTOS,
  • CUDA-accelerated image and signal processing on GPUs written in CUDA-C/C++,
  • VHDL code running on our own FPGA PCBs designed for spaceflight,
  • MATLAB- and Python-based orbital dynamics, atmospheric propagation and signal path simulations.

Responsibilities

We would like you to take ownership and be part of our software development efforts aimed at enabling fast laser links between our ATLAS space terminal and HERMES optical ground station or between ships carrying our POLARIS terminals. This includes:

  • figuring out where to point the laser for establishing a data link,
  • tracking fast moving objects using cutting-edge image sensors,
  • orchestrating complex setups involving multiple embedded systems designed in-house,
  • enabling remote, unattended operation of our optical ground terminals via a network.

You will be free to work on the aspects of our products that can showcase your strengths as a developer. We will expect you to:

  • design an appropriate software architecture for a given task,
  • select the tools for implementing the required architecture,
  • work closely with our in-house team and contractors to deliver a functioning product.

Prerequisites

First and foremost, we are looking for a fast learner who can take leadership and responsibility while maintaining passion for innovation. Willingness to use modern coding practices such as CI/CD is important to us. The ideal candidate is expected to have demonstrated results:

  • picking and building a software architecture for a product,
  • using a low-level programming language such as C, C++,
  • using a high-level language such as Python,
  • maintaining and documenting software using Git tools.

Preferred candidates will optionally be familiar with or have demonstrated interest in:

  • coding for the Linux kernel and building a custom Linux system,
  • CUDA and low-latency GPU-based processing (RDMA),
  • real-time software execution,
  • basic control theory concepts such as PID control,
  • knowledge of hardware serial interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN,
  • work in the embedded domain.

Salary Range: Starting from €4,000 gross
